Horton Tallies 19 in Loss to Ramapo, 67-54

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball squad suffered a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) loss to Ramapo College, 67-54, on Wednesday evening at The Golden Dome. 

Rutgers-Newark (2-15, 1-9) was once again led by Samiyah Horton who finished the game with a team-high 19 points on 6-for-16 shooting from the floor. Tracey Ilderis gave the Scarlet Raiders second chances as she led the team with 11 rebounds while adding five points. Ramapo (11-5, 8-2) finished with 51 team rebounds with Jada Thompson pulling down 16 of them while adding 20 points. 

The Roadrunners opened the game with 17 points and held the Scarlet Raiders to 4, putting themselves in the driver's seat early. Rutgers-Newark bounced back in the second stanza and outscored the Roadrunners 15-10 to close the gap between the two squads. Raihanna Abdus-Salaam cashed in from behind the arc to cut the lead down to six with 4:39 to go. Ramapo was able to keep the Scarlet Raiders from gaining the lead via a 7-0 run. Rutgers-Newark would keep the offense moving and head into the locker room down eight after Aliyah Sanchez converted a layup. 

Ramapo came out of the break and recorded its most prolific quarter of the game, netting 21 points while holding the Scarlet Raiders to 14. The 
Scarlet Raiders offense took another step forward in the four, tallying 21 points led by Horton. Rutgers-Newark's late offensive flurry cut the lead down to 12, however, Ramapo slammed the door shut with a 5-2 run to close the game. 

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Saturday, January 20 when they travel to Union, NJ for a bout with Kean University.
