Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Scarlet Raiders Blanked by Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, NJ | Rutgers-Newark women's volleyball's (10-14) NJAC difficulties persist as they struggle to take a set from a soaring Montclair State (15-6) squad. Final score: 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-17).

The Scarlet Raiders started strongly, establishing an early 4-1 lead in set one. However, the Red Hawks quickly gained their rhythm. They turned the score around, pushing ahead at 10-6. The score remained relatively even, with both teams fighting hard, but the hosts finished out with an 11-3 stretch to take the set lead.

In the second set, the visitors once ahead got in front at the outset. Much of the credit goes to Bella Foster, who finished the match with six kills and ten total points. After replicating their 4-1 start, Montclair State once again got going and evened up the scoring at eight all. From there, it was all Red Hawks. They dominated the rest of the set, with a 17-4 run setting the final score at 25-12. It seemed as though Montclair State had another gear that they had been saving just for this moment.

The final set of the match started in reverse fashion compared to the first two. Montclair State established their 4-1 advantage, and it was the Scarlet Raiders that came marching back. This was by far the closest set from start to finish, with Rutgers-Newark putting together several three point runs. However, they were never able to pull ahead of their opponents, and a 7-1 run at the end put the set, and the match, to bed.

Women's volleyball will get a reprieve from conference action this Saturday, October 26th, in the form of a tri-match in Reading, PA. They will play Alvernia at 11:00 am and Brooklyn College at 1:00 pm.
