Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Scarlet Raiders Defeated at Home by Stockton

NEWARK, NJ | Rutgers-Newark women's volleyball (6-11) couldn't manage to pick up a set against the 2023 NJAC regular season champions, as the Ospreys (11-3) collected a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-22, 25-17).

Stockton were on top of the game right from the outset - they jumped ahead 8-2 in the first set. The Scarlet Raiders, led by the hitting of Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte, did their best to stay abreast, but they couldn't get within four points of their opponents. The Ospreys ended the set on a three point run, taking it 25-17.

The Scarlet Raiders were ready in set number two, taking a 9-8 lead. It looked like Stockton had locked back in when they went up 15-13, but Rutgers-Newark had another gear. They went on a 7-3 stretch to put themselves above by two late in the set. Tracey Ilderis sparkled, collecting 10 kills over the course of the evening. However, the visitors were not to be denied - they picked up five straight, leaving the score at 21-19. From there, they were able to steady the ship to the end.

Set number three was much like the first. The Ospreys got hot mid-set, going on a six point run after it was tied at nine. The Scarlet Raiders answered back somewhat, taking four in five, but it wasn't enough. Stockton steadily increased their advantage, and ended the match with a comfortable 25-17 set three victory.

It's three straight conference losses for the Scarlet Raiders, who face an uphill battle if they want to force their way into the NJAC playoff picture.

Women's volleyball will look to bounce back this Saturday, October 5th in a non-conference tri-match. They will head to Annandale-on-Hudson, NY to take on St. Lawrence and Bard College at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, respectively.
