Women’s Hoops Cruises Past York College

JAMAICA, NY - Sophomore guard Arlenny Medina had a career night, as the Rutgers-Newark women's basketball team cruised to a 83-43 victory at York College this afternoon.

The Raiders improved to 3-3 this season as they ride a three-game win streak.

It was Rutgers-Newark from start to finish with no recovery in sight for York College. The Raiders jumped out to a 22-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. By halftime the scoreboard read 42-14 in favor of the visitors.

Coming out of the break, Rutgers-Newark continued to apply the pressure outscoring them 23 to 14 in the third quarter. The final quarter only saw a three-point difference but York College needed a whole new game plan if they were going to make a comeback.

Medina led Rutgers-Newark with career highs of 23 points, 12 rebounds, nine steals, and seven assists to nearly register a quadruple double. Tracey Ilderis had 12 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Aaliyah Sanchez scored 12 points and Raihanna Abdus-Salaam added 10 points.

Alicia Gums led York College with 28 points.
