Men's Basketball Season Ends at the Hands of TCNJ

EWING, NJ | The Rutgers-Newark men's basketball season came to a close this evening after a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) loss to The College of New Jersey, 72-59.

Rutgers-Newark (12-13, 8-10) was led by Levi Holton's 19 points and 13 rebounds with Kelvin Marshall adding 12 points. TCNJ (17-8, 11-7) tallied 17 points from Matthew Okorie and 15 from Nick Koch.

The Scarlet Raiders opened the game in an eight-point deficit after TCNJ jumped out to a 14-6 lead in seven minutes. With 9 minutes remaining in the opening half, Russell Ayala cashed in from range to bring Rutgers-Newark within two. TCNJ responded quickly and eventually pushed its lead out to 11 with just one minute to go. The Scarlet Raiders did not close the gap as the Lions carried that lead into the break.

Marshall cut the lead down to two once again with 12 minutes remaining in the game via a free throw. However, once again, the Lion's offense was able to go on a 6-0 run to expand their lead to eight once more. As time dwindled, the Scarlet Raiders tried to chip away at the lead but couldn't generate a big enough run to overcome the Lions on the road.

Rutgers-Newark will set its sights on next season as it prepares to make another run at the NJAC Championship.
