Women's Basketball Not Able to Slowdown NJCU's Offense

JERSEY CITY, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball squad dropped a late season New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game to New Jersey City University on Saturday afternoon at the John J. Moore Athletics & Fitness Center.

Rutgers-Newark (2-20, 1-14) was led by Samiyah Horton's 12 points and Aliyah Sanchez's 12 rebounds. Ebony Odom Barnes dished out a pair of assists. NJCU (13-7, 11-4) received 12 points from Na'Tori Postell while Dayjah Anderson and Sarah Edmond each tallied 10 rebounds.

The Gothic Knights opened the game with a statement, scoring 27 points while holding Rutgers-Newark to 9 points. In the second, the Scarlet Raiders' offense stalled, netting just three points as NJCU's defense continued to force the Scarlet Raiders into low percentage shots.

When the page turned to the second half, the Scarlet Raiders began to find their stride as they scored 10 points out of the break. NJCU, however, continued to find the holes in the defense as they kept the Scarlet Raiders at bay with another 20-point quarter. In the final stanza, NJCU kept rolling as they won a crucial NJAC game.
