Men's Soccer Wins 4th Straight With 4-0 Win Over Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, PA | Four different goal scorers powered the Scarlet Raiders to a commanding 4-0 victory over Eastern on Wednesday afternoon, extending Rutgers-Newark's win streak to four games.

Rutgers-Newark (4-2) fired off 17 shots as a team, with six on target, while limiting Eastern (2-2) to just seven attempts. Goalkeeper Pedro Flores was a key figure in the defensive effort, making three critical saves to secure the shutout.

The scoring opened in the 18th minute when Nicholas Gomez found the back of the net, taking a pass from Marco Menacho and notching his first goal of the season. After Rutgers-Newark's early lead, Eastern applied pressure, forcing Flores into action with a pair of important saves. However, the Scarlet Raiders doubled their advantage in the 34th minute when freshman Ian Brown netted his second goal of the season off a well-placed assist from Jake Milne.

Rutgers-Newark's attack intensified after the break, and it took just 10 minutes into the second half for them to strike again. Darius Holmes scored his team-leading third goal, finishing off a pass from Erick Cortes to put the Scarlet Raiders up 3-0. The Scarlet Raiders continued to flex their muscles, with Rutgers-Newark sending 12 shots toward goal in the second half, compared to just five in the first. Morales capped the scoring in the 79th minute with an unassisted goal to make it 4-0.

With a comfortable lead, Rutgers-Newark locked down the game, holding Eastern without a single shot in the final 12 minutes, sealing the win on the road.

FROM HEAD COACH KEVIN EAST
"This was a great result for the squad today," said East. "Eastern has been off to a strong start with quality results. We played very disciplined and smart today. Our forward line was active and created problems early and often. Our midfield controlled the game's tempo, allowing our defensive unit to snuff out any attack from Eastern."
