Rutgers-Newark Women's Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Bout to Albright, 3-1

READING, PA | Tracey Ilderis tallied a career-high 16 kills as Rutgers-Newark fell to Albright, 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 25-16, 25-21) on the road. 

The Scarlet Raiders (1-2) tallied 32 kills as a team and hit .106 with Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte pacing the team with a career-high 21 digs. Sophie Hampton led Albright (2-0) with 14 kills while Paola Mejias surged to a match-high 33 assists. 

Rutgers-Newark took the opening set after jumping out to a 6-1 lead. Sabrina Suquinagua kept the Scarlet Raiders ahead with a service ace to push their lead out to 13-6. Albright, however, went on a 12-2 run that almost stole the set from the Scarlet Raiders. Elvin Karakaya was instrumental in holding off Albright and catapulting the Scarlet Raiders back in front with three kills on an 8-2 run. 

Albright bounced back in the second set via a 6-0 run early in the set before backing that up with a 5-0 run to take a 15-9 lead. Rutgers-Newark broke up a 3-0 run late by Albright to try to ignite a comeback but their attempt came up short as Albright tallied two kills to level the match at one set each. 

With the third set knotted at six, exploded for a 9-1 run that put them in the lead, 15-7. The Scarlet Raiders couldn't regain their footing as Albright used the recently gained momentum to close out the set and go up 2-1 in the match. 

The final set saw the score go back and forth as the teams battled for the lead. Ilderis tied the set at 17, capping a 3-0 run for the Scarlet Raiders. Albright responded with a 7-2 run that put the set out of reach for Rutgers-Newark.
