Moreno & Milne Lead the Way in a 5-2 Win Over Yeshiva

NEWARK, NJ | Pablo Moreno scored one goal and dished out two assists as the Rutgers-Newark (1-2) men's soccer team secured its first win, 5-2, over Yeshiva University (1-1) in the first meeting in school history.

Returning to their home turf for the first time this season, the Rutgers-Newark men's soccer team came out firing, launching 10 shots at Yeshiva in the first half. The breakthrough came courtesy of Jake Milne, who coolly slotted a goal after a slick through-ball from Edgar Silva. Silva's perfectly timed pass split Yeshiva's center backs, leaving Milne one-on-one with keeper Kellian Marty. Milne's shot found its way under Marty, who then stepped up for Yeshiva, making five crucial saves, including a brilliant stop on a penalty kick, to keep the score at 1-0 heading into the break.

The second half saw Rutgers-Newark double their lead spectacularly. After a quick throw-in by Jeremy Hernandez, Pablo Moreno curled a shot from an improbable angle that nestled into the far post, making it 2-0. Milne netted his second of the game off of a cross by Pablo Moreno before Jonah Dias increased the Scarlet Raiders' to four via a dipping free kick from 20 yards out. Yeshiva wouldn't bow out without a fight as they netted two goals in 40 seconds to cut the lead down to two with 12 minutes to go. With six minutes remaining on the clock, Moreno sent a low cross into the box where Darius Holmes was waiting to push the ball into the net and close the door on any comeback attempt by Yeshiva.

FROM HEAD COACH KEVIN EAST
"Tonight was a pretty good performance," said head coach Kevin East. "We had several freshman step up and give us quality minutes tonight and that just goes to show the depth we have on our team this season. It was, however, pretty disappointing to give up the two goals toward the end, but we will work on those little things in training this week as we head into the weekend with another pair of games. Jake Milne played well in front of net and made the most of his opportunities as did Pablo who finished the game with a goal and two assists."
