Newark, NJ – Rutgers-Newark women's volleyball battled hard but fell in straight sets to Kean University on Tuesday night inside The Golden Dome.
Kean took the match 3–0 (25–22, 26–24, 25–14), using a steady offensive attack and strong net play to keep the Scarlet Raiders at bay. Rutgers-Newark hung tight through the first two sets, pushing the Cougars to the brink before Kean closed out both frames in the final points.
Shayla Moody-Santos and Tracey Ilderis led the Scarlet Raiders with eight kills apiece, while Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte anchored the defense with 18 digs. Rutgers-Newark showed energy throughout the night, highlighted by long rallies and well-placed serves that produced 10 team aces.
Despite the strong effort, Kean's efficiency proved to be the difference. The Cougars hit .265 as a team and used a balanced attack led by Ashley Torok (14 kills) and Victoria Latino (11 kills) to seal the sweep.
Rutgers-Newark moves to 7–15 overall and 1–4 in NJAC play, while Kean improves to 17–4 and 3–1 in the conference. The Scarlet Raiders will look to bounce back as they hit the road for a non-conference matchup with Western Connecticut State.
