Newark, NJ – The Rutgers–Newark men's soccer team fell 3-0 to The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon at Frederick Douglass Field. Despite creating several opportunities, the Scarlet Raiders were unable to capitalize, finishing with five shots on goal in the match.
TCNJ struck first in the 17th minute when Matt Will scored off a pass from Chris Meder. The Lions doubled their advantage six minutes later as Matias Hornos converted another Meder assist to make it 2-0. Rutgers–Newark looked to respond before halftime but couldn't find a breakthrough.
Meder added a goal of his own just 23 seconds into the second half to extend TCNJ's lead to 3-0. While the Scarlet Raiders continued to attack, the Lions held firm defensively, finishing with a 6-5 edge in shots on goal despite being outshot overall.
Pedro Flores finished with three saves in goal for Rutgers–Newark, while TCNJ's goalkeeper stopped all five shots he faced to record the shutout.
