Newark, NJ – On Saturday, October 4, 2025, the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders fell 1-0 to the William Paterson Pioneers in a tightly contested NJAC matchup at Frederick Douglass Field. Despite a strong second-half performance, the Raiders were unable to overcome an early goal from the Pioneers.
Seydou Camara scored for William Paterson in the 29th minute, which proved to be the game-winning goal. Rutgers-Newark outshot the Pioneers 16-13, including seven shots on goal, but were unable to convert any into a score. Ian Brown, Edgar Silva, and Erick Cortes each led the team with two shots on goal apiece.
The Scarlet Raiders' goalkeeper made five saves, while William Paterson's Luca Misko recorded seven saves to secure the victory. Rutgers-Newark committed 15 fouls compared to WPU's 16, and the Raiders held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
With the loss, Rutgers-Newark falls to 7-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in NJAC play. The Scarlet Raiders will aim to rebound with a non conference matchup with NYU at Frederick Douglass Field on October 8th.
