New York, N.Y. – The Rutgers University–Newark women's volleyball team competed in a tri-match on Saturday, falling 3–1 to host John Jay College before dropping a 3–0 decision to Regis College in non-conference play.
In the opening match of the day, the Scarlet Raiders battled hard but came up short against John Jay by set scores of 27–25, 25–21, 25–27, and 25–14. Tracey Ilderis led the way with 10 kills, while Cyan Long added four service aces and 11 digs. Nicole Sullivan filled the stat sheet with 14 assists and 12 digs, and Mia Espinoza contributed four assisted blocks at the net.
In the second match, Rutgers-Newark faced Regis and fell in straight sets, 25–11, 25–23, and 25–21. Ilderis once again paced the Scarlet Raiders' attack with nine kills, and Long anchored the defense with 18 digs. Sullivan dished out 19 assists, while Shayla Moody-Santos tallied seven kills.
Rutgers-Newark will look to regroup in conference play next week against Ramapo.
