Scarlet Raiders Battle Hard but Fall to Ramapo in Four Sets

MAHWAH, N.J. – The Rutgers–Newark women's volleyball team came out strong and captured the opening set against Ramapo College before the Roadrunners rallied to take the match 3–1 (25–16, 18–25, 13–25, 26–28) in NJAC play at the Bradley Center. The Scarlet Raiders battled hard in a tightly contested fourth set, nearly forcing a decisive fifth before falling just short.

Rutgers–Newark set the tone early, dominating the first set 25–16 behind a .259 hitting percentage and four services aces to take a 1–0 lead. Ramapo responded in the second with steadier play to even the match, then used a strong third frame to gain control. The Scarlet Raiders showed resilience in the fourth, trading points deep into extra play and tying it at 26–26 before the Roadrunners closed it out 28–26.

Tracey Ilderis led the Scarlet Raiders with 10 kills, while Cyan Long added eight kills and 13 digs in a standout two-way effort. Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte chipped in four aces and 11 digs, and libero Miley Clenaghan posted a team-high 14 digs. Nicole Sullivan paced the offense with 18 assists.

The Scarlet Raiders (7–11, 1–3 NJAC) will look to bounce back when they travel to Immaculata on Friday for a non-conference matchup.
