Women's Basketball Dominant in Home Opener

Newark, NJ — Rutgers–Newark turned in a dominant performance on Wednesday night, rolling past York College (NY) with an 82–38 victory inside the Golden Dome. The Scarlet Raiders set the tone early, jumping out to a 22-10 lead after the first quarter.

Rutgers–Newark opened the game strong, shooting 42.1%  in the first quarter while their defense caused 10 turnovers for York. By halftime, the Scarlet Raiders had firmly established momentum, using defensive pressure and transition scoring to open up a 20 point lead.

The third quarter proved to be the decisive stretch, as Rutgers–Newark outscored York 28-9 in the quarter. That surge pushed the lead well out of reach and allowed the Raiders to comfortably manage the final period, ultimately securing the 44-point win.

A balanced scoring effort powered the victory, with Raihanna Abdus-Salaam leading the way with 14 points. Arlenny Medina, Sanaa Brodie and Quanajah Felder each fished with 12 points. On the defensive end, Abdus Salaam and Medina put pressure on the Cardinals all night totaling seven and six steals respectively.

The win moves Rutgers–Newark to 2-3 on the season, while York drops to 0-4. The Scarlet Raiders will look to keep their winning ways going game as they travel back to Camden for a matchup with Rutgers-Camden next Tuesday, November 25th.
