Newark, NJ — Rutgers–Newark opened the afternoon with one of its sharpest starts of the season, setting an early tone against Hunter College inside the Golden Dome. The Scarlet Raiders put together a solid first quarter offensively, posting 16 points from good ball movement before Hunter settled in and began to shift momentum.
Hunter closed the opening period with a push that gave them a 21–16 lead, and the Hawks carried that stretch into the second quarter. A series of Rutgers-Newark turnovers and missed opportunities allowed Hunter to extend the gap, outscoring the Raiders 16–8 in the quarter to take a 37–24 lead into halftime.
The Raiders continued to compete coming out of the break, but Hunter maintained control of the pace. Newark managed 12 points in the third quarter, yet the Hawks answered consistently on the other end, using an 18-point period to widen the separation. Facing a 55–36 deficit entering the fourth, Rutgers–Newark looked for late momentum, but Hunter's defense held firm as the Raiders were limited to just six final-quarter points. Hunter closed out the game to secure a 62–42 road win.
Both teams struggled from the field on the day, finishing under 25% shooting, but the Hawks capitalized on Rutgers–Newark's mistakes, turning them into 18 points off turnovers and adding 17 second-chance points.
Sanaa Brodie paced the Scarlet Raiders with 14 points and eight rebounds while Arlenny Medina added seven points and 10 rebounds.
Rutgers-Newark fall to 2-5 on the season and will look to add a conference win Wednesday as they visit NJCU.
