NEWARK, NJ - Rutgers–Newark fell to Montclair State on Saturday afternoon, as the Scarlet Raiders were unable to overcome a slow start in a 78–48 defeat. Montclair State opened the game with a strong first quarter, jumping out to a 22–8 lead and maintaining control throughout the first half.
The Red Hawks continued to extend their advantage in the second quarter, taking a 44–22 lead into halftime. Rutgers–Newark showed more energy after the break, but the early deficit proved too large to erase.
Rutgers–Newark was paced by Quanajah Felder, who scored 12 points and eight rebounds, while Sanaa Brodie added 11 points and five steals off the bench. Despite their efforts, the Scarlet Raiders struggled to find offensive rhythm, shooting 30 percent from the field and going 0-for-8 from three-point range.
With the loss, Rutgers–Newark drops to 2–7 overall and 0–3 in NJAC play. Montclair State improves to 5–1 on the season and 2–1 in the conference.
