NEWARK, NJ — Rutgers–Newark struggled to find its rhythm early and ultimately fell 94–50 to William Paterson on Tuesday night inside the Golden Dome. The Scarlet Raiders opened the game shooting just 27.27% in the first quarter, allowing the Pioneers to take a 30–13 lead out of the gate.
William Paterson carried a 48–29 advantage into halftime and continued to control the pace on both ends of the floor. Rutgers–Newark battled in the third quarter but was outscored 25–15 before the Pioneers closed the night with a 21–6 fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Sanaa Brodie led the Scarlet Raiders with 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting while adding seven rebounds and four steals in 33 minutes. Quanajah Felder was the other Scarlet Raider to reach double figures with 10 points
Rutgers–Newark shot 34 percent from the field and 12.5 percent from three, while William Paterson finished at 46.5 percent overall and converted 23 free throws. The Pioneers held a strong advantage in the paint and in points off turnovers to control the game.
The Scarlet Raiders move to 2–8 on the season and 0–4 in NJAC play. They will look to regroup on Saturday as they hit the road for another NJAC matchup, this time with Stockton.
