Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Holton Drops 30 in Close Loss to Stockton

NEWARK, NJ | The star senior played arguably his best game of the season, but the Ospreys (15-5) proved too formidable for the Scarlet Raiders (5-15) to conquer. They successfully defended their home court by a score of 82-74.

The game began slowly but steadily. Neither side gained a significant advantage—Travis Miles laid in on the fastbreak to tie the score at 10 with 14:18 on the clock in the first half.

The two teams would draw level again at 15, and once more at 22. At this point, the Ospreys began to take off. They pulled ahead by six, but the Scarlet Raiders pulled them right back down to the ground. Greg Jones knotted things yet again at 30, and the visitors even took a brief lead. But Stockton had a burst off offense just before the break, and they secured a first half lead of 36-33.

When play resumed, it seemed as though the hosts might run away with the game. Eriq Campbell extended their lead to 11 three and a half minutes into the period, and they weren't done there. The gap would grow to 17 before it would begin to slowly shrink back down.

But Stockton was comfortably at least 10 points ahead for most of the half. Levi Holton was working hard, hitting all but one of his 14 free throws, alongside Travis Miles who dropped 19 points.

It wasn't until 3:17 that Shy'Heed Jenkins-Floyd got Rutgers-Newark back within single digit points of their opponents. But unfortunately, the game remained just slightly out of reach. Holton sank a three with 90 seconds left to make the difference eight, but that would be the last of the scoring. Men's basketball has now dropped to 1-12 in NJAC play.

The Scarlet Raiders march on to Wednesday, February 5th when they will host William Paterson. That game will take place at 8:00 PM right here in the Golden Dome.
