Women’s Basketball Falters Against William Paterson

NEWARK, NJ | After a close first half, the Pioneers (14-7) stormed away in the second, defeating the Scarlet Raiders (3-18) by a score of 74-52.

Quanajah Felder kicked off the scoring with a pull-up jump shot 26 seconds into the game. William Paterson pulled ahead and maintained a narrow lead until Aliyah Sanchez knotted up the score at 16, and that's how the first quarter would end.

That same scoring pattern would repeat itself. The Pioneers built up another advantage, setting themselves apart by six. However, Raihanna Abdus-Salaam nailed back-back threes to completely eliminate the visitors' lead.

But William Paterson was determined. Their offense exploded before the break, and the Scarlet Raiders went into the half down by a score of 36-25.

The second half was all Pioneers. Two minutes into the quarter, the lead had ballooned to 17, and it never came back down. At the start of the final period, the score stood at 60-40.

Brya Byrd checked into the game to log her first appearance of the season, and even knocked in a pair of free throws. In addition, Raihanna Abdus-Salaam had a solid game with 15 points. Those were the biggest positives on the home side. When all was said and done, the Pioneers came away with a comfortable road victory.

The Scarlet Raiders head to Ewing, NJ to take on TCNJ this Saturday, February 8th. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
