Newark, NJ – The Rutgers-Newark women's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Sarah Lawrence College on Monday night at Frederick Douglass Field. The Scarlet Raiders controlled the pace early, breaking through in the 19th minute when Mariana Valencia netted her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Annabella Velaj. Just before halftime, Ruby Hogue added her first goal of the year with a deep shot in the 41st minute to double the lead and give Rutgers-Newark a cushion heading into the break.
The Gryphons came out aggressive in the second half but the Scarlet Raiders were able to weather the storm and hold on to the victory. The Scarlet Raiders finished with 14 total shots, including five on target, while holding Sarah Lawrence to three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Shaina Sackett anchored the defense with three saves across the full 90 minutes to secure the clean sheet.
