Newark, N.J. - Rutgers–Newark forward Erick Cortes has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after a strong opening weekend that saw him score five goals on the week.
Cortes opened the season with a goal in the Scarlet Raiders' 2–1 loss to Redlands on August 29, providing the lone strike in a hard-fought match. He followed that performance with an explosive outing two days later, scoring four times in the first half to lead Rutgers–Newark past Yeshiva, 9–1, at Frederick Douglass Field.
With five goals over the two matches, Cortes proved to be one of the most dangerous offensive players in the conference and earned weekly honors for his efforts. His production helped Rutgers–Newark start the year 1-1.
