Newark, NJ – The Rutgers-Newark women's soccer team extended their win streak to four with a 1-0 victory over Moravian University on Saturday night at Frederick Douglass Field. With the win, the Scarlet Raiders improved to 5-3 overall while securing their third shutout of the season.
After a scoreless first half, Rutgers-Newark broke through just over a minute into the second when Emily Karlicki buried the game-winner off an assist from Samantha Vieira in the 46th minute. The Scarlet Raiders kept constant pressure on Moravian's goalkeeper Caitlyn Phillips, who was forced to make 14 saves as Newark piled up 22 shots, 15 of which were on target.
In net, Shaina Sackett delivered the shutout for Rutgers-Newark, making five saves to blank the Greyhounds. The back line, anchored by J'nyyah Young, limited Moravian's scoring chances, while Karlicki and Vieira led the way offensively with the decisive connection.
The Scarlet Raiders will close out their non-conference slate on Monday, September 22, when they host CCNY at Frederick Douglass Field before shifting into conference play.
