Scarlet Raiders Split Home Tri-Match

NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers–Newark women's volleyball battled through a full day of action at The Golden Dome on Saturday, splitting a pair of matches against Albright College and The City College of New York (CCNY). The Scarlet Raiders opened the tri-match with a five-set thriller against Albright, falling 3–2 (25–18, 19–25, 20–25, 25–19, 12–15) before bouncing back in the nightcap with a convincing 3–0 sweep over CCNY (25–14, 25–17, 25–21).

In the opening match, Rutgers–Newark came out strong with a 25–18 first set win, paced by the offense of Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte and the setting of Angelyse Orellana. Albright countered by taking the next two sets behind Neve Straff's 14 kills and a dominant net presence from Rachel Etim, who added seven kills and seven blocks. The Scarlet Raiders forced a decisive fifth with a 25–19 win in the fourth, highlighted by Orellana's 27 assists and seven aces along with strong defensive efforts from Cyan Long (26 digs) and Helen Bilomasur (21 digs). Simba-Malasarte turned in a standout performance with 18 kills and 16 digs, but Albright held on in the fifth, 15–12, using timely blocks and a steadier hitting percentage to edge the hosts.

Rutgers–Newark regrouped quickly and delivered a commanding performance against CCNY, sweeping the Beavers in straight sets. Simba-Malasarte and Shayla Moody-Santos powered the attack with 10 kills apiece, while Orellana guided the offense with 18 assists. Bilomasur was a difference-maker from the service line with four aces, and Long anchored the defense with 11 digs. The Scarlet Raiders dominated statistically, posting more kills (30–18), assists (27–15), aces (10–4), and digs (54–38), while holding CCNY to a negative hitting percentage.
