Glassboro, NJ — Rutgers–Newark fell to Rowan University, 83–59, Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.
The opening half was played closely as the two teams traded baskets throughout the early stages, with the score tied at 26 and less than eight minutes remaining before halftime. Rowan took control from that point, using an 11–0 run to swing momentum firmly in the Profs' favor. The surge continued late in the half, as another 8–0 run to close the period pushed Rowan's lead to 47–30 at the break and created separation heading into the locker room.
Rutgers–Newark continued to fight in the second half but struggled to keep Rowan out of the paint. The Profs consistently found success inside, finishing the game with 52 points in the paint to maintain their advantage and prevent the Scarlet Raiders from making a sustained push.
Greg Jones led the Scarlet Raiders with a career-high 16 points and Will Ndio added 15 points and eight rebounds,
Rutgers-Newark will look to get back on track as they return home next Wednesday for a NJAC rematch with Rutgers-Camden.
