Camden, NJ — Rutgers–Newark fell 59–58 to Rutgers–Camden on a buzzer-beating layup in a tightly contested NJAC battle. The Scarlet Raiders got off to a hot start, jumping out to an 11–3 lead in the opening minutes of play. Rutgers–Camden answered with a decisive 17–4 run to swing momentum, taking control of the game and sending the Scarlet Raiders into halftime trailing 39–31.
Newark locked in defensively in the second half, limiting Camden to just 20 points on 36.4 percent shooting. The Scarlet Raiders found their rhythm on the offensive end as well, shooting an efficient 54.5 percent in the half to chip away at the deficit and set up a dramatic finish.
With 10 seconds remaining, Raheem Murray knocked down a jump shot to give Rutgers–Newark a one-point lead. However, Ryan Senft answered at the buzzer with a layup, lifting the Scarlet Raptors to a 59–58 victory.
Murray and Will Ndio both finished with a team-high 15 points, with Ndio adding seven rebounds, while Ayden Brown contributed 10 points for the Scarlet Raiders.
Rutgers-Newark will look to bounce back as they return home on Wednesday, January 7 to host Ramapo College.
