NEWARK, NJ – The Rutgers-Newark women's volleyball team fell to Stevens, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-13), on Friday evening at The Golden Dome.
The Scarlet Raiders (6-8) battled throughout the second set, using a strong serving stretch to erase an early deficit and take a 14-11 lead. Nicole Sullivan delivered back-to-back service aces before Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte recorded a kill to extend the advantage to three. Rutgers-Newark continued to trade points with the Ducks (15-2), with Bella Foster and Simba-Malasarte contributing kills to keep the set close. Stevens, however, responded with a late run to take the second set, 25-19.
Simba-Malasarte led the Scarlet Raiders with five kills and seven digs, while Foster also recorded five kills. Cyan Long paced the defense with eight digs, and Sullivan finished with nine assists and two service aces. Fabiana Ayala added three kills and a service ace.
Rutgers-Newark returns to action tomorrow to host a tri-match against John Jay and Marywood.
