Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Early Momentum Slips as Rutgers–Newark Drops NJAC Contest

NEWARK, NJ – The Rutgers University–Newark women's basketball team opened Saturday's NJAC matchup with an efficient first half, but momentum shifted after the break as The College of New Jersey pulled away for a 95–48 victory at The Golden Dome.

Rutgers–Newark came out firing, shooting 53 percent in the opening quarter and keeping the game tight, trailing just 21–20 after the first 10 minutes. The Scarlet Raiders followed with another strong shooting performance in the second quarter, continuing to trade baskets with the Lions and heading into halftime down 39–32.

The game turned in the third quarter as TCNJ ramped up its defensive pressure and caught fire offensively. The Lions outscored Rutgers–Newark 27–5 in the period, swinging momentum and opening up a commanding lead.

That trend continued into the fourth quarter, with TCNJ maintaining control and closing out the contest. The Lions finished the game knocking down 17 three-pointers, using hot perimeter shooting to extend their lead.

Sanaa Brodie led the Scarlet Raiders with a strong all-around effort, posting 18 points and nine rebounds.

Rutgers–Newark will continue NJAC play on Wednesday as they travel to Ramapo.
