Scarlet Raiders Drop A Pair On Day Four Of Spring Training

MELBOURNE, Fla.-The Rutgers–Newark Scarlet Raiders showed early fight at the plate but couldn't hold off the Knights' offensive surge, falling to Carleton College-Minnesota.

The Raiders struggled to keep up with the Knights' offense despite their best efforts. Having 7 base runners throughout the game, their lone run, Maddy Haack, was scored by an RBI single from Janiyah Smith. The team played a disciplined defense, but could not defend the Knights for long.

In the second game of the day, the Scarlet Raiders competed hard but came up short in a tough match-up against Central Iowa, continuing their stretch of spring training.

Rutgers-Newark showed flashes on both sides of the ball, working to create opportunities offensively while staying active defensively. The Scarlet Raiders generated base runners and looked to build innings, but were unable to consistently string together hits to break through.

Kayla Cardozo worked her way on base, going 2-3 to cross the plate twice for the Raiders' 2 runs. Michaela Hobson pitched a full 7 innings, earning 7 strikeouts and working hard to generate outs.

In the field, Rutgers-Newark remained steady, making routine plays and working through pressure situations while battling against an aggressive opposing lineup.
