Davenport, Fla. – Rutgers-Newark fell to Babson College, 12-7, on Wednesday during its spring break trip.
The Scarlet Raiders (5-8) jumped out early, scoring two runs in the opening inning and continuing to apply pressure throughout the game. After being held in check early, Babson (3-6) found its rhythm midway through the contest, scoring twice in the fifth before breaking the game open with a five-run seventh inning. The Beavers added insurance late, plating one run in the eighth and four more in the ninth to secure the win.
Rutgers-Newark tallied 14 hits in the contest and continued to battle until the final out, scoring runs in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings. However, Babson's 17-hit attack and late offensive surge proved to be the difference.
Malik Little led the Scarlet Raiders offense with a stellar performance, collecting four hits and driving in three runs. Michael Weinbel also delivered at the plate, finishing with three hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs.
The Scarlet Raiders will look to bounce back as they continue their spring break slate.
