Scarlet Raiders Drop Spring Break Slugfest to Babson

Davenport, Fla. – Rutgers-Newark fell to Babson College, 12-7, on Wednesday during its spring break trip.

The Scarlet Raiders (5-8) jumped out early, scoring two runs in the opening inning and continuing to apply pressure throughout the game. After being held in check early, Babson (3-6) found its rhythm midway through the contest, scoring twice in the fifth before breaking the game open with a five-run seventh inning. The Beavers added insurance late, plating one run in the eighth and four more in the ninth to secure the win.

Rutgers-Newark tallied 14 hits in the contest and continued to battle until the final out, scoring runs in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings. However, Babson's 17-hit attack and late offensive surge proved to be the difference.
