Game Recap: Softball |

Scarlet Raiders Drop Two in Nonconference Action

Rutgers-Newark battled through a tough match up against St. Norbert, ultimately falling 11-1 in a shortened five-inning game. Despite the lopsided score, the Scarlet Raiders showed flashes of fight, breaking through in the fifth inning after being held scoreless early. A key moment came from Kayla Cardozo, who tripled and later scored the team's lone run, while Mariah Rimas-McManus drove in the RBI.

Rutgers-Newark managed four hits, with contributions from multiple spots in the lineup, but struggled to string together sustained offense. In the circle, the pitching staff faced constant pressure from a St. Norbert lineup that capitalized on walks and timely hitting.

The Raiders continued their day with a second game against Webster University. Rutgers-Newark showed plenty of fight but came up short in a 9–6 loss to Webster. Despite falling behind early, the Scarlet Raiders responded with a big four-run fourth inning to briefly seize momentum. The offense was a bright spot, totaling 12 hits, with strong performances from Keelin O'Brien (two RBIs) and Josephine Morales (three hits). However, defensive struggles and a costly sixth inning where Webster scored four runs proved to be the difference. Rutgers-Newark couldn't generate another rally late, leaving runners on base and missing key opportunities. While the loss stings, the team's offensive production and resilience showed promise moving forward.
The team has wrapped up their spring training trip and will continue their season back home.
