EWING, N.J. – Rutgers‑Newark dropped a doubleheader at The College of New Jersey on Sunday as the Scarlet Raiders struggled to keep pace with a powerful Lions offense.
In the opener, TCNJ posted a 10‑0 victory, scoring early and often while holding Rutgers‑Newark to just two hits. Mia Aquino took the loss in the circle as the Lions' balanced attack built a commanding lead.
In Game 2, the Scarlet Raiders showed more fight in a 4‑3 loss. Kristin Kloss and Maddy Haack each collected two hits, with Haack driving in two runs. Rutgers‑Newark scored three runs but fell just short as TCNJ scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning to complete the sweep.
Despite the tough day, Kloss and Haack's efforts at the plate stood out for the Scarlet Raiders.
The team will look to bounce back in their home opener against William Paterson University on Tuesday in Newark, NJ, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 PM.
