NEWARK, N.J. – The Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball team captured its third consecutive ECAC Championship on Friday, delivering a dominant performance on its home court with a pair of straight-set victories inside The Golden Dome.
The Scarlet Raiders opened the tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Ramapo in the semifinal round. Michael Suarez led the offensive effort with 10 kills, while Harry Takyi added seven. Duncan Sturt orchestrated the attack with 27 assists, guiding Rutgers-Newark to a balanced and efficient performance in the win.
In the championship match, Rutgers-Newark continued its strong play with another 3-0 victory over Baruch. Takyi paced the Scarlet Raiders with eight kills, helping secure the program's second straight ECAC title in convincing fashion.
Amari Menter (Ramapo), Luke Mumpower (PSU-Behrend), and Baruch's Peter Gavroff and Argjend Osmanaj were named to the ECAC All-Tournament Team.
With the championship victory, Rutgers-Newark capped off an impressive postseason run, winning the tournament without dropping a set and securing ECAC three-pear.
