Scarlet Raiders Erupt for 13 Runs in Win at NJCU

Jersey City, N.J. – Rutgers-Newark erupted for 13 runs on 23 hits to power past New Jersey City, 13-6, in NJAC action on Friday afternoon at Thomas M. Gerrity Complex.

After being held scoreless through the first three innings, the Scarlet Raiders' offense came alive in the fourth and never looked back. Rutgers-Newark plated three runs in the fourth, added two more in the fifth, and broke things open with a four-run sixth inning to seize control of the game.

The Scarlet Raiders' lineup delivered a dominant performance top to bottom, tallying 23 hits and four home runs on the day.

Michael Weinbel led the charge with a huge performance, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. Joseph Bernardo also had a big day at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. RJ Kernan contributed a strong effort, going 3-for-6 with two RBI, while Daniel Fedorco added a 3-for-5 performance with a team-high four RBI, as all four players homered during the contest.

On the mound, Rutgers-Newark used a staff approach. Starter Michael Romano worked 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out two. Matt Fasulo earned the win in relief, tossing five solid innings and allowing just one run while striking out three to stabilize the game and keep NJCU at bay.

Rutgers-Newark finished with 13 runs on 23 hits, while New Jersey City scored six runs on seven hits.

The Scarlet Raiders improve to 10-12 overall and 2-2 in NJAC play with the victory. Rutgers-Newark will travel to Camden tomorrow for a doubleheader against Rutgers-Camden.
