Softball Earns Split In Doubleheader Battle

NEWARK, NJ-  The Scarlet Raiders competed in a doubleheader match up against the Baruch Bearcats, splitting the games with a 7-6 win and a 10-6 loss on April 8th.

Rutgers-Newark earned a hard-fought 7-6 victory over Baruch using steady offense and timely execution to hold off a late rally. The Scarlet Raiders jumped out early, plating two runs in the first inning and adding insurance across the middle frames to build a 6-0 advantage through six innings. Keelin O'Brien contributed with 3 RBIs while going 2-3 at the plate. Kayla Cardozo and Gaby Forese also added an RBI each.

The Raiders held a 6-0 lead until the Bearcats showed extreme fight in the 7th to tie up the game. The Raiders scored their walk-off win in the bottom of the 7th after practicing patience at the plate and timely stolen bases from Keelin O'Brien and Alleyanna Figueroa

In the second game of the afternoon, Rutgers-Newark put together a strong offensive showing but ultimately fell short in a 10-6 contest against Baruch. The Scarlet Raiders tallied 12 hits and scored in five different innings, highlighted by a three-run second inning that helped keep the game competitive throughout.

Leading the way offensively was Mariah Rimas-McManus, who recorded two hits and drove in three runs, providing key run production. Laura Abreu added a standout performance with a triple and two hits, while Isabella Moss contributed extra-base power with a double.

Rutgers-Newark continued to chip away with single runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings, showing resilience at the plate. Keelin O'Brien and Josephine Morales also added timely hits to keep pressure on the Baruch defense. Baruch continued to capitalize on key opportunities to build and solidify its lead to take the win.
