Scarlet Raiders Drop Pair in Doubleheader

NEWARK, NJ- Rutgers-Newark dropped a conference doubleheader match-up to Ramapo on Tuesday afternoon, falling 16-1 and 14-4 in five innings. Despite the final score, the Scarlet Raiders showed early promise, manufacturing their lone run in the second inning.

After a scoreless first, Rutgers-Newark broke through, loading the bases and scoring a run from a walk by Kristin Kloss. The Raiders capitalized to take a brief lead, but it would be their only run of the contest. The Raiders continued to fight with a Kayla Cardozo double in the third, but were unable to push runs across.

The pitching staff worked through early pressure, but Ramapos' lineup found its rhythm in the middle innings. The Roadrunners put together big offensive frames, including a four-run third and an eight-run fourth, to take control of the game.

In the second match-up of the day, Rutgers-Newark fell to Ramapo 14-4 despite flashes of offensive production and early promise. The Scarlet Raiders struck in the opening inning, as Mariah Rimas-McManus led off with a single and later contributed an RBI hit, helping Rutgers-Newark put a run up early.
