GLASSBORO, NJ – Rutgers-Newark sophomore Kofi Agyemang had a hand in both second-half goals in a 2-0 win over Rowan as the Scarlet Raiders earned their first-ever New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament berth.

Rutgers-Newark 2, Rowan 0

The Raiders (11-3-4, NJAC 4-2-2) secured a berth in the six-team NJAC playoffs with the win over the Profs (10-5-2, NJAC 4-2-2) while moving into a second-place tie in conference standings behind two-time defending champion Montclair State (15-0-1, NJAC 7-0-0) in the process. A 2-0 loss by The College of New Jersey (6-6-4, NJAC 4-2-2) to Ramapo earlier today dropped the Lions into tie with the Raiders and the Profs.

Agyemang dribbled into the right side of the box and fired a shot inside the opposite post in the 50th minute for what proved to be the game-winning goal. He then hammered a free kick off Prof goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe which senior midfielder Tyler Chiara put back for an insurance tally in the 60th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Matt Zielyk made four save to post his eighth shutout of the season to improve to 8-3-4 between the pipes behind a dominating defensive effort led by senior Luis Valle. The Raiders limited Rowan to just nine shot while R-N took 20 shots on the night. Cunliffe was forced to make eight saves

Third-year head coach Kevin East and his team can earn a first-round bye in the tournament with a win in their regular-season finale against TCNJ on Alumni Field. Tonight's win also gave the Raiders four wins in conference play for just the second time in program history.

The Raiders ran their unbeaten string to nine matches (7-0-2) which extends their program record.  R-N dropped its first two NJAC matches against Ramapo (2-1) and Montclair State (1-0 in double overtime) before starting the current streak which puts the team in the thick of consideration for a lofty regional ranking.

Rutgers-Newark hosts Mount St. Mary on Alumni Field on Monday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference clash following the rain-delayed women's soccer Senior Day against Rowan at 4 o'clock.
