NEW YORK – Senior forward Deshawn Singleton scored 15 of his game-high 18 points in the second half as Rutgers-Newark bulled past CCNY, 72-47, in a non-conference men's basketball game in the Nat Holman Gym.

Sophomore guard Greg Moore poured in 14 first-half points and senior point guard Tim Smith had a six assists, six rebounds and five steals to fuel the solid Scarlet Raider (3-1) win over the Beavers (1-3). 

Moore dropped in four of five 3-point jumpers in the opening half as Rutgers-Newark steadily pulled away for a 35-22 lead at intermission. Senior forward Phil Barnes made eight of 10 free throws and added a field goal for all 10 of his points while Smith notched three assists and three steals while hitting two of three from the field for four points as Rutgers-Newark took control of the evening. 

Freshman guard Al-Don Muhammad finished with eight points and three assists while senior guard James Johnson added six points in the balanced Raider attack. 

No Beaver reached double digits in scoring with freshman guard Kenny Rubenstein and sophomore forward Ben Washington netting nine points each. Washington came off the bench to also get nine rebounds while freshman guard Israel Vickers added eight points and three assists. 

Rutgers-Newark hosts Montclair State in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's and men's doubleheader on December 2 in The Golden Dome. The Raider women take on the Red Hawks at 6 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 8 o'clock.
