EWING, NJ - The Scarlet Raiders dropped both games of a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader with The College of New Jersey falling to the Lions 12-1 and 8-0 in a pair of five-inning affairs.

Sophomore Jessica Zelaya led the Scarlet Raiders in game one of the twinbill, going one-for-two with an RBI. The Kearny, NJ native drove in Rutgers-Newark's lone run of the afternoon with a two-out triple in the top of the third inning, scoring sophomore third baseman Ashley Angeli.

Junior hurler Ashley Minervini collected the win allowing just one hit and one run while striking out four in four innings of work.

Fellow junior centerfielder Danielle Hagel paced the Lions offensively, going two-for-three with two RBIs and three runs scored, while sophomore first baseman Caitlyn Seamster finished one-for-two with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Junior Sam Weer recorded the Scarlet Raiders' lone hit in the 8-0 loss to the Lions in the nightcap, breaking up sophomore Jamie Moir's no-hit bid with a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth.

Moir, who finished two-for-three with two RBIs and a run scored, moves to 2-0 on the season after tossing five innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six.

Junior shortstop Ellen Seavers and sophomore second baseman Colleen Cawley combined for three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored, while Hagel finished one-for-one with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Scarlet Raiders will square off with Montclair State in an NJAC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 7 before returning home for a non-conference twinbill with the College of St. Elizabeth on Thursday, April 9.
