PROFILE OF THE WEEK (February 25, 2009)

SENIOR (2011):  Started in centerfield in 34 games for the 11-17 Raiders… hit .296 with 34 hits, five RBIs and a team-high 21 runs scored… stole four bases in as many tries… had four doubles, a team-high four triples and a home run to push her slugging percentage to .426… drew four walks to finish with an on-base percentage of .328… committed eight errors in 66 chances in the field… hit safely in 25 games with seven multiple-hit games… went two for four in each game of an NJAC doubleheader sweep of New Jersey City (4/9/11) with a triple, an RBI and a run scored… went three for four with a solo home run and scored twice in an 8-7 win over Staten Island (3/26/11)… went three for five with a double and scored twice in a 14-12 loss to Otterbein (3/17/11).

JUNIOR (2010): Hit .328 while tying for the team lead in hits (42) and runs (22) while starting in all 38 R-N games… had five doubles and two triples to register a .398 slugging percentage… drew a dozen walks to post a .390 on-base percentage… stole four bases in five attempts and dropped down three sacrifice bunts… hit safely in 25 games with 14 multiple-hit efforts… went four for five with a pair of doubles and an RBI in a 9-8 win over Nichols (3/13)… went three for four with a stolen base in 7-2 loss to FDU-Florham (4/8)… went two for four with a pair of RBIs in a 13-6 loss to Montclair State (4/13).

SOPHOMORE (2009): Led Raiders in batting average (.360), hits (36), triples (2), slugging percentage (.460), on-base percentage (.381) and stolen bases (4) while starting in 34 games… struck out just six times in 100 at-bats… posted three doubles and a home run… has started in 72 of the 73 games in which she has appeared in her career… posted a dozen multi-hit games highlighted by a three for four outburst in the nightcap of an NJAC doubleheader against Rutgers-Camden (3/31/09) when she added a stolen base and scored twice… went four for six with a 3-run home run in the nightcap of a doubleheader at FDU-Florham (4/2/09)…went four for six, drove in five runs, scored four times and delivered a pair of doubles in a sweep of St. Elizabeth (4/9/09)… went three for seven with an RBI and a run scored in an NJAC doubleheader against Ramapo (4/14/09)… went two for five and scored twice in a 13-12, 8-inning win over St. Joseph’s LI (4/16/09)… collected 10 hits in as many games at the Rebel Games in Florida, capping the week with 2-hit games against Spring Arbor (3/19/09), Utica (3/20/09) and McDaniel (3/20/09). 

FRESHMAN (2008): Started 38 of 39 appearances in her first season with the Scarlet Raiders... ranked third on the team in runs scored with (15)… earned NJAC Rookie of the Week honors after hitting .423 with a double, two home runs, six RBIs and six runs scored in eight games during Rutgers-Newark’s spring trip to Florida… went three for four with two doubles and a run scored in the first game of a doubleheader with William Paterson (03/29/08) before going two for four in a matchup with Montclair State (04/02/08)… finished two for four with a run scored in the first game of a doubleheader with Baruch (04/10/08). 

HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year letterwinner at Kearny HS under coaches Denis Cicchino and Meghan McCann… helped the Kardinals to a state playoff berth during her junior year… selected the team’s best offensive and best defensive player in separate seasons… also two-year standout in soccer… National Honor Society member.

PERSONAL: Criminal justice major who wants to be a police officer following graduation… daughter of Georgette and Raymond Zelaya… has an older sister, Melissa, and a younger sister, Roseann… favorite team is the USA Women’s Soccer Team… lists parents as the biggest influences on her life… like Rutgers-Newark campus for its diversity and acceptance of students from varying backgrounds.
