LITTLE FALLS, NJ – Sophomore
Shannon Davis finished the day two-for-four with double and a single, but the Scarlet Raiders drop to 0-8 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play after falling to Montclair State, 8-0 and 13-0 in a doubleheader at MSU Stadium.

Davis and fellow sophomore Jessica Zelaya recorded the only Scarlet Raider hits in the opener with Zelaya leading off the game with a single up the middle and Davis leading off the top of the fourth with a double to center.
With the game scoreless through one and a half innings the Red Hawks wrestled control of the first game of the twinbill with a four run second, followed by a four run bottom of the third.
Sophomore centerfielder Leslie Gonzalez helped lead the Montclair State attack, going two-for-three with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored, while junior leftfielder Kelly Nance finished one-for-three with a homerun, two RBIs and a run scored. Freshman rightfielder Shannon Mozek went two-for-two with a RBI and a run scored, while senior Kelly Karp, who earned the win after striking out eight in five innings of work, finished three-for-three with two runs scored.
Sophomore second baseman Emily Ibarra went two-for-two to lead the Scarlet Raiders offense in game two, singling to right in the bottom of the second before recording a two-out single to left in the third. Davis followed up a one-for-two outing in the opener with a one-for-two showing in the nightcap.
The Red Hawks got off to a quick start in the second game of the doubleheader with a four run top of the first, capped off by a two-out, two RBI Mozek single to right. Montclair State would push the lead to eight with a four run second, following Nance's two-out RBI double to left, before tacking on five runs in the top of the fourth.
Nance paced the Red Hawks offensively going three-for-three with five RBIs and two runs scored, while senior shortstop Jennifer Jimenez finished two-for-four with three RBIs and two runs scored. Mosek and junior first baseman Amanda Livsey combined for three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored, while Karp picked up the win after allowing three hits in three innings of work.
Rutgers-Newark will host the College of St. Elizabeth in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 9 before playing host to NJAC rival New Jersey City on Saturday, April 11.
