NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark senior midfielder Whitney Huber notched a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Old Westbury in the final match of the 2009 Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic on Alumni Field.

Huber's breakaway run down the right side in the 25th minute staked the Raiders (3-3-0) to a 2-0 lead and became the game-winning goal when Rutgers-Newark committed an own goal in the 31st minute to make it 2-1 at intermission.

Sophomore midfielder Liana Abreu banged in an insurance goal on a Huber corner kick in the 54th minute for the only score of the second period.

Sophomore midfielder Amanda Moursy gathered in a loose ball at the top of the circle and fired a low shot inside the left post in the 13th minute for the opening goal.

Abreu joined R-N defenders Sasha Potterand Jessica Gavilanes on the All-Classic Team.

Rutgers-Newark constructed a 20-1 edge in shots against the Panthers who placed senior midfielder Jennifer Campisi and senior defender Mikele Reitmayr on the All-Classic roster.

Sophomore forward Julia Caseres was tabbed the Classic MVP after firing in four goals and adding two assists in New Jersey City's 9-1 drubbing of Philadelphia Biblical in the opening match. The lopsided win gave the Gothic Knights (5-2-0) the Classic team title on point differential over the Raiders. Freshman forward Ashley Cunha, junior goalkeeper Kelly Reilly and sophomore midfielder Katlin Vargo also made the All-Classic squad.

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Schenkel and sophomore forward Kate Henley – who combined for the Crimson Eagles' goal against NJCU – were named to the all-tournament team.

NJCU piled up a 38-3 advantage in shots, forcing PBU senior goalkeeper Kristen Lyszczasz to make five saves. Reilly needed just one save to get the win in goal.
