NEWARK, N.J. – Rutgers University-Newark women's soccer has announced its 2026 regular-season schedule, featuring a challenging slate of non-conference opponents and a full NJAC schedule as the Scarlet Raiders prepare for the upcoming campaign.

Rutgers-Newark opens the season on the road with a matchup at Immaculata before making its home debut at Frederick Douglass Field as the host of the annual Brick City Classic. The Scarlet Raiders welcome Kean, Bard, and CCNY for the tournament, highlighting one of the premier events on this year's schedule.

The non-conference slate continues with a rematch against Eastern University before Rutgers-Newark closes out non-conference play against FDU-Florham.

NJAC competition begins at Frederick Douglass Field as the Scarlet Raiders host William Paterson in their conference opener before hitting the road to face defending NJAC champion Montclair State. Rutgers-Newark wraps up conference play against Rowan, who finished the 2025 season ranked No. 18 in the nation, setting the stage for another competitive race to the NJAC Championship Tournament.

Coaches Corner

Rutgers-Newark returns two All-NJAC performers in senior forward Vielka Fernandez and junior defender J'nyyah Young to lead an experienced Scarlet Raider squad into the 2026 season.

Fernandez earned All-NJAC honors after scoring six goals and three assists last season and is expected to take on an even larger role in the attack this fall. Young anchored the Scarlet Raider back line throughout the 2025 campaign, providing physicality to the defensive unit.

With a veteran core returning, head coach Nate Guagliardi believes the Scarlet Raiders have the experience and chemistry to compete every time they step onto the field.

"We bring a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of what it truly means to play together," Guagliardi said. "Our players communicate effectively, understand how to compete as a unified unit, and know how to support one another through every challenge."

That chemistry translated into a balanced offensive attack last season, as four different Scarlet Raiders scored five or more goals. Rather than relying on a single player, Rutgers-Newark enters 2026 with multiple proven scoring threats and a roster that understands the value of playing for one another.

"Rather than relying on individual performances, this team thrives on unselfish play, disciplined execution, and a shared commitment to one another," Guagliardi added. "Our understanding of teamwork will be one of our greatest strengths as we prepare to compete and pursue success throughout the season."
