NEWARK, NJ – Senior forward
Deshawn Singleton, who led all scorers with 17 points, notched his 1,000th career point in the first half of Rutgers-Newark's 64-53 New Jersey Athletic Conference win over Richard Stockton in The Golden Dome.

The win keeps the Scarlet Raiders (15-6, NJAC 5-4) in the thick of the race for one of six NJAC Championship Tournament berths while defending league champion Richard Stockton (15-6, NJAC 5-4) lost a chance to open some distance in the NJAC's South Division race.
Senior guard
James Johnson had 10 of his 13 points in the opening half, nailing two of his three 3-pointers on the night, and Singleton added eight points as the Raiders took a 32-24 lead into the locker room.
Rutgers-Newark also got a game-high 13 rebounds and eight points from senior forward
Phil Barnes and nine points on three treys by sophomore guard

Tim Smith added six points, six rebounds, and game highs of four steals and three assists.
Junior guard Kai Massaquoi paced the Ospreys with 14 points, six rebounds and two assists while senior guard Santini Lancioni added 13 points and four rebounds. Senior forward Omar Smith barely missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
A pair of Singleton free throws gave the Raiders their biggest lead of the night at 57-41 with 3:28 left.
Singleton, a 2009 All-NJAC first-team forward, became the 11th Scarlet Raider men's basketball player to reach the 1,000-point plateau when he dropped in a free throw to make it 19-14, Rutgers-Newark, with 7:45 left in the opening period. He joins Chadd Barnes, Jermont Horton and
David Cherry as players who have score 1,000 during the nine-year tenure of head coach
Joe Loughran.
The Raiders took sole possession of third place in the NJAC's North Division – a game ahead of New Jersey City and a game behind Ramapo – in the battle for a league tournament berth with just four games left on the slate. The top three teams from each division qualify for the tournament.
Rutgers-Newark visits Montclair State on Wednesday for an NJAC doubleheader. The women tip off at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 o'clock.
