BROOKLYN, NY – Rutgers-Newark dominated the top three flights in singles, but Brooklyn College won two doubles matches and swept the lower singles flights for a 5-4 win. 

Brooklyn College 5, Rutgers-Newark 4 

Sophomore Gafar Ayinde and senior Brian Barbera on the first and second flight singles courts and teamed for a double victory on the No. 1 court. Ayinde stopped Anthony Chan, 6-3, 6-4 in on the No. 1 court in singles play while Barbera notched a 6-3, 6-1 win over Vesna Tan. Ayinde and Barbera stopped Chan and Tan, 8-5, in doubles. 

Freshman William Cheung notched a 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 win over the Bulldogs' Jeffrey Deng on the No. 3 singles court for the other Scarlet Raider win. 

Rutgers-Newark slipped to 0-2 on the season while Brooklyn College climbed to 1-2. 

The Raiders host Caldwell College at 1 p.m. on Saturday on The Golden Dome Courts in Rutgers-Newark's home opener.
