Gafar Ayinde pushed his singles match to a third set, but Rutgers-Newark was overpowered by Hunter, 9-0, on The Golden Dome Courts.

Ayinde took the opening set against the Hawks' Irving Salazar, 7-5, before falling 6-4 in the second. Salazar prevailed, 10-8, in the pro-set third frame.
Rutgers-Newark fell to 0-8 on the season while Hunter improved to 12-3.
Rutgers-Newark visits Ramapo on Monday before hosting City Tech on Wednesday in its season finale. Both matches begin at 4 p.m.
