Rutgers-Newark Softball

Amber Affholter
POMONA, NJ – Rutgers-Newark senior Amber Affholter and freshmen Monica Bagan and Monica Liotto collected three hits apiece, but Richard Stockton swept the Scarlet Raiders, 4-2 and 13-2, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Richard Stockton 4, Rutgers-Newark 2
Richard Stockton 13, Rutgers-Newark 2

In the opener, Bagan had a pair of singles but Osprey pitcher Jamie Gasko limited the Scarlet Raiders (7-9, NJAC 0-2) to seven hits and no earned runs.

Liotto slapped a 2-out RBI double in the seventh for the final run of the game while senior pinch runner Jackie Guas stole home in the fifth for the other Raider run.

Affholter ripped a double in the first inning for the Raiders.

Rutgers-Newark freshman starter Angela Riscinti (4-5) allowed just two earned runs while yielding eight hits and two walks against two strike outs in six innings. But, four hits and two walks in the first gave Richard Stockton (12-4, NJAC 2-0) three runs – all that it would need for the win.

In the nightcap, Liotto and Affholter each went two for three, but the Ospreys piled up 10 runs in the first two innings of the 5-inning contest.

Affholter dropped down a bunt single and scored on a double by Liotto in the fifth for the final run.
Bagan singled and scored on a fielder's choice in the fourth for the Raiders' first run.

Rutgers-Newark hosts Brooklyn College on Alumni Field at 4 p.m. on Monday before resuming NJAC play at Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday.
