NEWARK, NJ – Freshman setter
Jen Mendoza had 28 assists while fueling a balanced Rutgers-Newark attack in a 3-0 win over New Jersey City in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match in The Golden Dome. Game scores were 25-19, 25-17, 25-19.

Toni Moppert as the Scarlet Raiders (5-10, NJAC 1-4) posted their first league win.
Touzan and Moppert combined to pound down 18 kills without an error on 50 swings. Touzan hit .500 on 18 swings while Moppert had no errors on 32 attacks.
Witt tallied a match-high 11.5 points by adding an ace and a solo block while Moppert came up with 14 digs. Touzan had 10.5 points with the addition of an ace and an assisted block.
Raider freshman outside hitter
Ula Nieznalska had a match high 21 digs to go along with six kills and two aces. Senior middle blocker
Crystal Navarro delivered three of Rutgers-Newark's eight aces while adding a solo block and two assisted blocks. Senior libero
Rose Anna Beljour had 15 digs to help the Raiders forge a 68-61 edge in that category.
The Gothic Knights (5-7, NJAC 0-3) got 10 kills from sophomore middle hitter Brittany Erezuma while junior outside hitter Tabitha Jordan tallied nine kills and 13 digs. Senior setter Alex Johanesen collected 23 assists, a kill and an ace.
New Jersey City never led in the match as the Raiders steadily pulled away to win each frame.
Rutgers-Newark hosts the College of Staten Island on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a non-conference match in The Golden Dome.
