JERSEY CITY, NJ – New Jersey City rode a strong first half to a 4-1 win over Rutgers-Newark in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match on Robert McNulty Memorial Field.

Sarah Cunha put away a shot off of the right post by senior forward
Liana Abreu in the 40th minute to trim the Gothic Knight lead to 2-1, but that was as close as Rutgers-Newark (4-11-0, NJAC 0-5-0) would get.
Senior forward Julia Caseres tallied three goals in the opening half when NJCU outshot the Scarlet Raiders, 16-5. Caseres netted her 16th goal of the season at 9:39 by putting away a header feed into the middle of the box by senior forward Jennifer Albuja as the Gothic Knights (12-3-0, NJAC 3-1-0) controlled the opening period.
Freshman defender Devon Williams netted her first career goal by sending a high through pass from near midfield which bounced over Raider freshman goalkeeper
Victoria Nunez and rolled into the right side of the net for a 2-0 NJCU lead in the 38th minute.
Caseres scored goals two and a half minutes apart in the final five minutes of the half to give the Gothic Knights a 4-1 cushion.
Nunez shut out the Gothic Knights in the second half, ending the game with four saves while NJCU freshman goalkeeper Brittany Hoffman needed just one second-half save to get the win.
NJCU forged a 26-7 edge in shots while taking six corners to the Raiders' two.
Rutgers-Newark hosts Rowan in another NJAC contest on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on Alumni Field.
