Scarlet Raiders Rally Past Staten Island, 3-1

NEW YORK, NY – Junior middle blocker Rachel Witt posted 13 kills and eight aces to help Rutgers-Newark rally past the College of Staten Island, 3-1, in the Sports and Recreation Center on Staten Island.

Witt tied sophomore teammate Ula Nieznalska with a match-high 13 kills on her way to 21.0 points.  She made just one attack error in 29 swings and notched a season-high in aces. 

Nieznalska chipped in four of the Scarlet Raiders' team season-high 22 aces and tied sophomore Paulina Walega with a team-high 11 digs.  Walega added three aces.

Rutgers-Newark (5-16) snapped a three-match losing streak while the Dolphins fell to 2-15 on the season.

Sophomore setter Jen Mendoza had 28 assists, three aces and eight digs.

Junior right side Stephanie Touzan and sophomore middle blocker Michelle Jimenez contributed five kills apiece with Touzan adding an ace.

Vasiliki Stergioula led the Dolphins with six kills, an ace and 14 digs.

Rutgers-Newark completes its New Jersey Athletic Conference slate at Rowan University on Tuesday at 7 o'clock with a conference championship tournament still in play.
